Livelihoods

The poverty rate in Kenya remains high with estimated 17% of the population living below US $1.90 a day. The case continues to worsen aggravated by high cases of unemployment, little informal gainful activities, deteriorating health of the population, and unresponsive government economic programs characterized by poor business conditions, high food and commodity prices, high inflation rates and unfavorable taxation policies.

There is a huge rural and informal urban settlements in grave poverty situations out of reach of many government economic interventions. Many families cannot afford basic needs due to high inflation rates. Belfon foundation intervenes for this population with various programs targeting to empower women, widows, youth and the disabled population. Some of our programs include; small scale rotational business support for women and widows, vocational training and skills development for the youth and disabled persons, as well as human rights and economic advocacy for women and disability rights. We use different sector oriented approaches in order to ensure sustainability of support to the vulnerable communities.

You can support or partner with us to eradicate poverty and make a difference in the lives of some vulnerable communities.
